Tartar is a product of minerals and plaques in saliva. If the cleaning is not done regularly, they cause periodontal diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis. In order to prevent the formation of tartar, our pets should be regularly brushed with a special toothpaste and brush.
Some breeds such as Yorkshire terrier, Maltese terrier, Shih tzu are very prone to tartar formation. Tartar cleaning is done with ultrasonic cavitron device.
Periodontal diseases are inflammatory diseases affecting the gingiva and other tissues that support the teeth.
Periodontal diseases cause many conditions in the body. These are;
• Heart valve diseases,
• Kidney failures,
• Loss of teeth, anorexia and pain,
• If periodontal disorders are not treated, the disease can turn into periodontitis and cause irreversible damage to the alveolar bone.
In order to determine periodontal diseases, all teeth are measured with a periodontal probe and these data are combined with a dental X-ray and the following procedures are performed;
• Subgingival curettage
• Gingivectomy & gingivoplasty (these procedures can also be done by laser in our clinic)
• Flap applications and use of tissue grafts
Tooth extraction is performed in the following cases;
• Teeth that cannot be recovered by treatment due to severe tooth cavitiy and substance loss,
• Abscessed teeth that cannot be recovered despite canal treatment,
• Teeth that sway due to severe gingivitis,
• Milk teeth that do not fall on time,
• Teeth causing problems due to excessive position change (turning, tipping, etc.),
• Teeth inside the cyst or tumor.
